Ribbon Cutting - Turning Leaf Counseling
Turning Leaf Counseling, located on the 3rd floor of the historic Brick and Tile building, has served the Mason City area since January 2009 and is excited to announce an expanded floor plan and the hiring of 6 more therapists to better serve the community.
With a decrease in mental health facilities, both locally and statewide, Turning Leaf Counseling (TLC) has expanded due to increased demand and their ongoing dedication to empowering families and individuals through counseling. With an increased capacity of twelve therapists, TLC now has the opportunity to serve over 400 clients per week and six area schools. TLC’s goal is to continue to provide an exceptional level of care to north Iowa, as well as increasing the community’s access to mental health services with this new expansion.
Late June 2017, Turning Leaf Counseling will be unveiling a new wing which connects the third floor of the Brick and Tile building to the adjoining floor of the historic Delaware Street building, currently housing the Thai Bistro on street level. This new wing houses additional therapy offices, as well as support staff. The new 3rd floor access into the Delaware Street building allowed for the revitalization of an historic space previously unusable due to a lack of accessibility to the ground floor and elevator services. Last used as apartments in the 1960’s, this once lively space has been sitting abandoned for half a century. By integrating the Delaware Street building and the Brick and Tile, TLC has not only seized the opportunity to expand but also gives life to a sleepy and forgotten space that was formerly a decadent ballroom in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s.
Turning Leaf Counseling is dedicated to serving the community’s youth ages 2 years of age and above, as well as adults, couples, and families. The clinicians of Turning Leaf Counseling specialize in parent/child interaction therapy, play therapy, couples counseling, and counseling individuals with PTSD, depression, anxiety, trauma, anger, and loss. Turning Leaf Counseling is excited to continue to serve the Mason City area and help individuals with general to severe mental health issues.
In the midst of the Brick and Tile building turning 100 years old in 2017, Turning Leaf Counseling is honored to be a part of rejuvenating and expanding the historic Mason City landmark. In 1917, the building opened as the Modern Brotherhood of America (MBA) building and was dedicated with a speech by former U.S. President William H. Taft. Here’s to the next great 100 years.
