Outdoor Production of "Our Town" by Thornton Wilder
Central Gardens of North Iowa and the Clear Lake Arts Center present ?summer theater under-the-stars?. The perennial, Pulitzer prize play, ?Our Town?, written by Thornton Wilder, has been selected and will be directed by Clear Lake?s own Craig Rule and supported by an all volunteer cast and crew for a July 14, 15 and 16 presentation. Curtain time is 7:30pm. The play portrays a small New England town over a span of ten to twelve years in which we see that ?Our Town? characterizes citizens living in almost any town.
Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door with children 14 & under free when accompanied by an adult. Tickets can be purchased online or by calling (641) 357-1998, emailing clac@cltel.net or visiting the Arts Center at 17 South 4th Street in downtown Clear Lake or at the Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, 205 Main Ave, Clear Lake, IA.
Central Gardens of North Iowa is situated on 2.75 acres at 800 Second Avenue North. Its ceremonial garden will provide a stunning setting for this outdoor performance. Picnicking before the performance is encouraged. Reminiscent of outdoor theater at the turn of the 20th century, guests are encouraged to bring their own blankets and folding lawn chairs. When asked if there would be seating, in case someone forgot to bring their own chairs, Paula Hanus, Director of the Clear Lake Arts Center replied, ?Oh yes, we will have chairs. We just thought it would be fun if they brought their own blankets and chairs. It?s an attempt to immerse the audience into the performance. One of those wonderful ?Audience Participation? strategies that the performing arts program at the Clear Lake Arts Center has become known for.?
