Ag Breakfast 2020
The Mason City Chamber of Commerce will host the 38th Annual Ag Breakfast at 8AM on Thursday, August 13 at the Commerce Center. Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig will update the community on Iowa’s economic status and how the pandemic has impacted Agriculture.
The COVID-19 situation in Iowa has been constantly evolving and local agriculture has been forced to modify tell-tale processes to adapt. Livestock producers, supply chains, meat processing facilities, and market auctioneers are determined to keep shelves stocked and bellies full. Secretary Naig will be sharing information about the impact the pandemic has had on the Agriculture industry.
Naig learned the value of hard work as he grew up helping his dad run their crop and livestock farm. Before becoming Secretary, Naig had been active in agribusiness, serving in public policy roles for state and national trade associations and in the private industry. He served as the Iowa Deputy Secretary of Agriculture under Bill Northey. His experience working alongside Northey showed him the importance of being accessible to Iowans to better represent their interests and be responsive to their needs.
The format of the Ag Breakfast and program have been modified. The first 50 attendees will get the opportunity to listen and learn IN-PERSON. All other attendees will be given a zoom link that they will be able to ask questions throughout the session. The event was postponed this spring due to the rise of COVID-19.
