First Congregational UCC virtual worship
A message for the family and friends of First Congregational UCC from our Interim Minister, Rev. Erika E Breddin
March 16, 2020
To the family of First Congregational United Church of Christ,
Grace to you, and Peace, from God our Creator, and from Jesus the Christ.
This is an unprecedented moment in history where we are witnessing a global pandemic. During times of uncertainty, we lean on God and draw from the well of our faith. Isaiah 41:10 states, “Do not fear, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Out of an overabundance of love for you, and in keeping pace with the recommendations from medical experts, we at First have made the difficult decision to suspend our in-person worship services for the time being. Instead, we will be gathering together in digitally on our Facebook page. The link to our Facebook page is: https://www.facebook.com/firstchurchmasoncity/ I encourage you to join us there for our weekly worship at our regular time every Sunday. If you are unable to do so, the service is recorded and accessible to be watched on our Facebook page at any time.
I will be maintaining regular office hours, and am available for private prayer and conversation at any time. You can reach me by calling the church, or calling/texting my cell phone: 319-504-2630. I will be unable to maintain my schedule of visiting our folks in-person in our retirement communities – in accordance with the facility lockdowns that have been implemented at those locations. However, I will call and check in with them on a regular basis.
As much as possible, we will try to ensure that a sense of normalcy can be found, while recognizing this is anything but normal. Please pray for all of those associated with the church, and for those who are caring for the vulnerable. We treasure your prayers in normal times, in times such as these we hold them even closer. Our God may indeed be ‘A Mighty Fortress’, but it is the people of faith that are the stones that are build upon that solid foundation, and so we must depend upon and support one another in times of trial and need.
The church continues to have regular expenses that need to be paid, during this time. As such, even if you are unable to join us physically, please continue to support the church through your generous giving. Gifts can be sent in via the mail to the church. They can also be submitted electronically via Tithely. The direct link to giving to our church on tithely is: https://tithe.ly/give?c=897833 There is also a Tithely app for your phone available in the Apple Store and on Google Play. If you choose to follow this option – our church name is First Congregational United Church of Christ.
The following weeks will be ones of challenge and learning for all of us. I hope that we can all continue to hold one another in prayer, with special attention to the more at-risk communities – the elderly and the immuno-suppressed.
Due to the love we have for all our attendees and the desire we have for them to remain healthy, Caffeinated Christianity is cancelled for the foreseeable future. Thank you for understanding.
