Senior Staff Accountant

Major Responsibilities:

  • Complete client engagements with an emphasis on quality standards, timely completion within budget, and profitability.  Keeps management informed of important developments on engagement, analyzes problems, and recommends solutions
  • Perform all levels of accounting duties and periodic financial reporting for clients
  • Reconcile account balances and bank statements, maintain general ledgers, perform variance analyses, and prepare month-end/year-end close documents
  • Prepare and analyzing complex financial reports, budgets, forecasts, and records
  • Make recommendations to management based on analysis of financial statements
  • Review existing client accounting and accounting systems, exercise discretion regarding corrective measures needed with client data and provide solid recommendations
  • Assist in resolving client issues and problems; compile research and prepare reports regarding issues
  • Prepare income tax returns, fixed asset schedules and set clients books to tax
  • Provide training to clients regarding operation of their accounting software, GAAP, and internal controls
  • Provide customer service and field questions from clients
  • Coordinate complex accounting projects and initiatives with other members of the team
  • Review financial reports and journal entries prepared by staff accountants to ensure accuracy
  • Supervise, train and mentor staff assigned to engagements
  • Coordinates the completion of financial statements, work papers and reviews financial statements prepared by the Staff Accountants
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls for staff accountants 
  • Accomplishes accounting and the firm’s mission by completing related tasks, as needed
  • Actively participates in the Firm’s business development efforts.  Professionally represents the Firm at business and community functions.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Proven experience as a financial controller, accounting supervisor or senior accountant
  • Expert knowledge of accounting principles, financial statements, and compliance with GAAP
  • Ability to meet a constant stream of deadlines
  • Awareness of business trends and experience working with clients
  • Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a team and clients
  • Superior analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Great communication verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate ideas
  • Ability to speak numbers and business with clients with a keen sense toward business growth
  • Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented and accuracy driven
  • Proficient with QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online or similar accounting software; Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (Vlookups and pivot tables), Word, Outlook, and Adobe Pro 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, math, business administration or related experience
  • At least five years of general accounting experience demonstrating a progression in complexity, scope, accounting skills and knowledge

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk, bending, stooping, kneeling, walking, and working at a computer
  • Lifting requirements of 30 pounds to carry client records, bags, computers, and peripheral equipment

Supervisor, Compensation, Benefits and Other:

  • Reports to Chad Harrison
  • Full-time, 40-hours per week in the office
  • Non-exempt position. At-will employment. Competitive compensation, paid bi-weekly
