Ribbon Cutting - Cannonball Gardens
The Friends of the 457, a volunteer group responsible for the restoration and preservation of the 1912 steam engine in East Park, better known as the Rotary Cannonball, broke ground three years ago for a three-phase project to construct the Cannonball Gardens. The goal was to turn an unsightly area of weeds, brush, and eroding soil into a series of landscaped terraces - enhanced with patios and walkways, along with an outdoor educational center. Thanks to the generous support of the community, the project was completed last fall. A Mason City Area Chamber of Commerce Ribbon Cutting ceremony will take place at 9AM on Saturday, May 20th at the lower level of the Gardens. Refreshments will be served on the upper level.
